Concert Band
These photographs were taken on 7th January 2010 during the students’ orientation camp/parents’ day/CCA open house. I did not take only photographs of Concert Band, but various CCA, Co-curricular activities that I found interesting. During my time, any activities outside of school is being called ECA, Extra-curricular activities. Nowadays, instead of calling it ECA, they had named it CCA. Whether CCA or ECA, they are the same thing.
Students are expected to have at least one CCA. CCA is compulsory. As written in the student handbook, each pupil must participate in at least one main CCA. Pupils must achieve at least 75% attendance for CCA practices.
Ricsson had written a number of CCA options. He had chosen Lighthouse productions, Robotics Enterprise, Badminton, InfoTech Club and Concert Band (last options). Unfortunately, he was given the last option, which was concert band. I do not mind which CCA he joins, but the most important thing is he must love it or has an interest in what he is doing.
He told me he got Concert Band as his CCA. He does not seem to be very enthusiastic about it. But I thought it is a good CCA, an important CCA which play important role in the school. It is the only CCA in the school which plays ‘music’, providing all the ‘fun’ — the music to the school. Without music, the school is going to be so boring, so quiet. During important occasion, the band is going to coordinate with other CCA, as in welcoming distinguished guests and even performed on stage for important ceremonial performances.
I did not have much information about the school Concert Band. Whatever information I have is all spoken from Ricsson’s mouth, or from the 2009 yearbook (given by the school during the orientation).
I wanted to know more about the school, in particular Concert Band. (After I had spoken to the teachers of Admiralty Secondary School recently… to be exact, last Wednesday, on 26th May 2010)…. The Concert Band provides some information about their ‘organization’. They provide their mission statement, their vision and their goals. Some teachers-in-charge are being shown at the website as well. What other information you can obtain there are basically past achievements and past activities. Details about training schedules, training guidelines, expectations of the students and so on, are not written in the website.

Snapshot of Concert Band ‘Organizations’ as taken from Admiralty Secondary School website. The Bottom immediately after Organizations showed Achievements of the Concert Band. The above snapshot with the word ‘achievements’ is taken on purpose to show ‘everything’ that is revealed about the Band.

This concert band group looks smart, but I was not at all impressed at their open house on that day, 7 January 2010. I had seen better performances….
