Handphones Review

Singapore is such a small country. Everywhere I go, there are always crowds. Nowadays, I hate to go out during peak hours and weekends. Shopping centres are extremely crowded with people. Carrying Isaac and pushing the pram around is so difficult with crowds or heavy traffic. Even though Singapore is such a small country and traveling from one part of the town to another is not a big problem with time, but with crowds around, it is indeed a big problem.

In big countries like United States where traveling is an issue — traveling from one state to another takes such long hours. Shopping for them is a problem. This I had experienced when I went California several years ago. For them, shopping on the internet seems the easiest option. Singapore is a place where tourists or the locals can shop easily too. However, due to the big crowds, shopping nowadays can be a hassle as well. This is especially so for small shopping centres and places with narrow passageways.

Due to the heavy traffic in most parts of Singapore, I only go shopping when there is a real necessity. Occasionally I will buy things that I like/need when I happen to come across them. For example, this Chinese New Year, our family did not go shopping for new clothes. Several days prior to Chinese New Year, the shopping centres are already crowded! That already deter me from going anywhere. Similarly, Richard would normally check the websites for handphones or computers reviews.

When buying handphones, it is really advisable to read and read and read handphone reviews — read about what people have to say about their handphones (of various models, and especially those models that you intend to buy). At shopping centres, handphones are all displayed in the cabinets or advertised on papers/flyers. What you really get to know about your phones are all the external looks and the product specifications. How user friendly is your handphones we can never know because there are ‘testing’ set of handphones around.

Everytime Richard buys a new handphone, I would test it out. He had bought Samsung handphone twice. This is the second time he purchases another Samsung (Galaxy) handphone. The last one that he owned was LG (KS 20) phone, which I bought for him. I do not like both mobile phones (See photograph 1 below) actually if for my own personal use. For these two models of handphones, I find that the touch sensibility is not so good. Most of the time, I have to ‘touch’ (hit) a screen a lot of time for a function to be able to work.

The purpose of having a handphone is to call — make phone calls or receive phone calls. When buying handphone, this is the main thing I have to consider. So I would like a simple phone and user friendly one that can send and receive messages easily. Nowadays, most handphones are made similar to iphone. It is good that the phone can provide so much usage with so many extra applications. However, I would prefer to have separate gadgets like a small portable PC and a easy to use Sony Ericsson handphone in my bag (See photograph 3 below).

Mobilefun.co.uk is a website that contains everything mobile. This is the perfect website indeed for handphones shopping. Find iphone, find iphone dock, find HTC and even iphone accessories and many other models of handphone accessories at MobileFun! At MobileFun, there are blog and forums. So you can really read what handphone users have in mind and also read mobile phone articles. On top of that, there are ringtones, games and downloads available at their site. This is really everything in one place and ‘shopping’ or ‘window shopping’ at the convenience of the home or office place without crowds.

If you do not do any homework (check handphone reviews on the internet), you might have to stick to something which you do not like for the rest of the two years (handphone contract).

Both gadgets are ‘touch screen’, but I prefer to use the iPod Touch as it is more ‘touch sensitive’. The ipod Touch is similar to iphone. The only difference is iPhone has phone function but iPod no phone function. The iPhone is thicker than the iPod Touch.

I had put the Sony Ericsson handphone on top of Eee PC so that you can compare the size of the objects.

Two separate entities as compared to one single item:
This is my latest handphone, Sony Ericsson when glide open (See photograph 4 above). The iPod is on the right its power on, showing one of the application (Flash cards). I would prefer a combination like that rather than having an iphone.

With the Sony Ericsson having ‘buttons’ to press, I do not have to worry about ‘touch sensitivity’ at all. It is so convenient to make and receive phone calls. I can always show/entertain and teach Isaac (flash cards) with the iPod and at the same time using my own phone! On the right, you can see a small photograph of Isaac. He is not ‘eating’ iphone case but ‘ipod case’ (but the case can be used for both iphone and ipod). If you are shopping for iphone case, you can do so at Mobile Fun — remember: Everything Mobile!

Just another note about ipod case or iphone case. I will not buy another extra casing for my ipod (if that is my ipod). I like the ipod without case. That is why I always take out the case when using it. Then Isaac would like to take the case (to play/put in his mouth). Adding the case makes it more difficult to click the side buttons on the ipod.
