Jack Neo Movie

That is the Chinese character for the word ‘people’ (Ren, 人– in Chinese) on the left. It says, ‘you can write the character ‘Ren’ 人, but do you know how to ‘make’ (meaning ‘To Be’). This means that besides knowing how to write the word ‘Ren’, do you know how to be one (human being) — 做人?

Before you can say people, we must always examine yourself first. Many times, people around me said,”你会不会做人呀你?”(this is mainly said by my sister actually in the past) and I also heard my father always said that at home to the children.

Life is an irony, and I am really successful in ‘making people’ 做人成功 (Zuo Ren Chen Gong). However, ‘making’ people (reproduction) and being human (做人) are two different matter. So two words in Chinese like that can mean so many things.

This is Jack Neo’s new movie, Being Human (做人)

What is right and what is wrong? Who can we follow in life? Some family have parents who do not even know how to be human being. They eventually get divorced or the family members all have disagreements with one another. In life, how really do you behave and act like a human being? Who to follow and which standard to follow?

Even the one who we think have a happy marriage and a successful career life, Jack Neo (The Cultural Medallion holder), fell into temptation, and failed to ‘behave’ himself. He had violated God’s Law, one of the ten commandments in having committed adultery! And yet, in this show/movie, he is telling people about ‘being human’, about ‘making of people’…

By now, everybody should know what he had done, this man, the director of films, the production of Singapore movies. Singapore is a small country with no natural resources at all. It is an island where you can see so many educational centres, tuition centres, learning centres, and more and more universities and courses being run. It is a learning ‘hub’, a learning centre. In his movies, we can always see ‘Singapore’.

He, Jack Neo, destroyed his own career, his own reputation…. or is this his turning point of life, a blessing in disguise which he would produce better movies in the future, and have a better and more fulfilling family life?
