Japanese Food

This is such a funny world. Today as I looked at the story behind Sakae Sushi, I was surprised to know that they had 6 locations in the world — Singapore, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. What is so surprising is Japanese Restaurant in these 5 other countries (not mentioning Singapore), but none of this country is Japan… Ricsson answered this question and I found his answer very logical…

Singaporean and people in general is so funny… . I knew of a Singaporean man who married Japanese lady. Perhaps working in Singapore is very hard. This man went to Japan to set up Japanese Restaurant there. This is Singapore Man going to Japan to sell Japanese Food. Whereas over here, I do not know if this person behind here is a Japanese… but our ‘discussion’ and conclusion is that ‘the person is from Singapore’ since there are so many branches in Singapore. I counted the branches in Singapore, and there are 39 Sakae Sushi outlets in Singapore!

I do not have any fancy for Japanese Food. I do not like to eat Sushi, but I got eat Sushi, and I do not detest Sushi. There is only certain sushi that I ate, and today, Richard and I broke record in eating a particular ‘new sushi’ which we had never ate before. It is the squid or octopus sushi as seen in the photographs below. We do not like to eat raw sushi at all, but this octopus sushi seemed not fully cooked, but semi-cooked. It does not taste fantastic.

As usual, we had our ‘normal servings’ of soft-shelled crabs and the steamed eggs….

Japanese food often comprise of Sushi and fried food which they called it Tempura. They also have noodles which they called it udon or something like that. Richard and I do not like all these. We have limited ‘choices’ only. The tempura whether it contains prawns or soft-shelled crabs or vegetables, are basically all the same to me. There are no flavours or any particular seasoning added to it. Everything is very simple, and they often give a bowl of sauce, soy sauce, for you to dip the tempura in. I do not like the taste of the sauce also. I just eat the tempura and soft-shelled crab plainly, without dipping in the sauce.

The other thing which I like to eat from the restaurant is the Jelly fish, besides the steamed egg. Something I like from the restaurant is the preserved ginger. It would be so nice to eat the preserved ginger with century eggs….. unfortunately, there isn’t any century eggs in the Japanese Restaurant. Instead of dipping the tempura or soft-shelled crabs in the soy sauce, I ate them with preserved ginger at times. I like to eat it this way.
