Muslim Food Stall

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

This was what aroused me when I stood in front of this Muslim Stall one day. I wondered what those words meant. Despite knowing them since the day they started business at Woodlands North Plaza, I had never noticed any details of these words written on it. But, it was only last year, 12 September 2008, that I saw those words on their front stall.

This Muslim Stall, I had stopped patronizing for a long time. Why? Fear. Fear of eating hairs and fear of eating cockroaches and eating cold dirty food… no joking, and it was not one time but a few times. And I finally said to myself, “STOP”.

So for a very very long time, and I do not know when, I did not eat from this stall anymore, until as mentioned early last year September 2009.

Muslim Food Stall at Woodlands North Plaza: This is the Malay Food stall which I patronized often….but now reduced…

I don’t know what is the name of the Stall, as I don’t remember names. And I did not complain on them to the authority. Who to tell? How? We don’t even know and would not have so much time to look at phone books or whatever. But on the day of eating the dirty food, I was so much prompted to give feedback to the stall and even to ‘pack’ them back and showed it to them. But each time, Richard would stop me from doing so….

First, it was hairs. Clumps of hairs found among Mee Siam which is rather cold (towards the end of eating it). It was like, ‘Wiiieeerrreee” — I was going to ‘vomit out everything’ seeing the sight. At that time, I still do not have any handphone camera or digital camera. Richard said,”Aiyo, don’t be crazy lar!” So I did not pack the things up, but threw it away.

Each time, when I walked to their stalls, I was so tempted to tell them what I had experienced. But Richard would stop me. So I did not tell them.

Sometimes, I really crave for their food. Again, I ordered from them. It was Lontong that I bought home this time. This time, another surprise was found in the Lontong. It was cockroach and some other dirt. I asked the children and Richard to see. Everybody was so scared. Would I dare to buy from them again?

In front of the Muslim Food Stall was pasted these paper: A grading of “B” and an Award.

A closer view of the Award: For the fine culinary skill in Nasi Campur…

I never buy from them since the discovery of the cockroach and dirt in the Lontong. But the grading was still the same throughout the time that they stayed at Woodlands North Plaza, and even until today.

All the stalls at Woodlands North Plaza scored B, and some new stalls with no grading yet. Can you really rely on such grading system?
