Playground Project

Everytime we walked past the playground and visit the playground, but I just did not notice the Notice put up at the playground. On this ‘inspirational’ day, my eyes for the first time saw this notice at the children’s playground…

Thisphotograph below shows the ‘birds-eyes’ view of the Fu Shan Garden playground. Two different playground can be seen, one on the left and another on the right. On the left is the contemporary playground, and on the right is the ‘traditional’ playground….
On this day, the garden was filled with students. The cleaner (RC) and CQ (woman with dog) was also there. RC, a cleaner with some mental problem/low IQ, could speak so much to me on this day! On other times, he hardly answer or talk much (don’t know how much he understand also…). Anyway, he seemed cheerful on this day.
Sitting at the centre of the garden was a wheelchair woman with her maid (or assistant). I carried Isaac, bringing him to the playground to play. At the contemporary playground as shown on the left, it was crowded with secondary school students. This playground is always a hotspot. It is always frequent by big boys and girls, rather than small children. With the big boys and girls around, it is very dangerous to have a toddler playing among them…. That makes the ‘traditional’ playground useful. It was quiet, and Isaac can have the whole playground…

Back view of the Notice in between the two playgrounds at Fu Shan Garden (or rather at the Contemporary Playground): A Playground Project By Sembawang Town Council

Front view of the Notice in between the two playgrounds at Fu Shan Garden: This playground is for the enjoyment of children 5 to 12 years only. All Children must be accompanied by adult at all times. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the children’s safety in the playground.

Look at the conditions of these two sides of the signboard or notice. This is so terrible. And do you think that there are people who actually care so much and really BOTHER to read these?
Land is so precious in Singapore and Fu Shan Garden is such a big garden. This is a really precious piece of land here that can provide a great potential of recreational activities to residents and students if under good management.
In this playground, there are enjoyment for children aged 5 to 12, and fitness corner for the elderly. But there is nothing suitable for babies and youths….
This is really a garden that is not fully utilized… take for instance, this plot of land space at the end of the orange dinosaur slide. A crocodile emerging from the ‘pond’. But this is really something to be admired only. There is really nothing people can do anything here. What do you expect children or students to play with this? Jumping up and down, running up and down the slope? It would be good to add things like those spring animals creatures where little toddlers or children can sit on it (rockers)…
We see the playgrounds being ‘vandalized’, and how big boys and girls ‘used’ the playgrounds… I hope that WE, the citizens of Singapore, can crack our brains, come together and together build a beautiful, useful, and of great recreational value Fu Shan Garden so that Residents here can live in peace and harmony…. (knowing that CQ always call up the police :P … and residents often have some issues with school students over here….)
