Sakae Sushi

It was Teachers’ Day. We went to Sakae Sushi today for lunch. I had a craving for the steam egg. There are two Japanese food restaurants at Causeway Point. I had tried the two restaurants and I prefer to go Sakae Sushi (at 7th Floor, opposite Banquet).

I would not say that the service in the restaurant is very good, but it was ‘reasonable’ — nothing special in particular, nothing outstanding in their service… you need anything, you need to wait for ‘attention’. Their service in general is okay. The waiters and waitress are not rude, but their service is not superb. The reason for me to choose this restaurant is because it is bright. The furniture is of soothing colour, everything is spacious and I feel comfortable. The ambience is good. As compared to their competitor downstairs, at the basement, you can see that the one at the basement is very dark and it is crowded. Even if it is not crowded, I would not want to go because it is very cramp inside the restaurant. I have a ‘cramp’ feeling inside the restaurant… don’t feel comfortable. Their service is not as good as Sakae Sushi. Once, Clara was queuing up at the cashier to buy Sushi. The manager of the restaurant (guy) was terrible. He can see Clara. But he ‘ignored’ her and kept asking the people behind her to move forward for payment. I saw it from afar and was very angry. This is NO WAY to TREAT A CHILD — SERVICE FROM THE MANAGER some more! However, the reason for me not to choose this restaurant is not over this matter, but really is the ambience, the surrounding environment that counts.

The photograph shows part of the restaurant. You can see the colour of the seats and table are so soothing, making the place bright (in addition to their windows). One thing that is not very good is that their baby chair is ‘inserted’ and ‘hanged’ onto the table. It is not very good. The waiter asked if we wanted the baby chair and we declined since we had tried before.  Macdonald high chair is very good.  I would say that this one here is innovative, consuming space, but too bad, Isaac do not like it.  Perhaps next time we would try again.

Overall, we are satisfied with the restaurant and that is why we went back again and again. Below are the dishes we had ordered. These are the normal food that we ordered besides sushi (not my favourite). I do not know the names of all these dishes in Japan. Whenever the waiter repeats the name of the dishes that we had ordered, we do not know what she is referring to, except when the name of the dishes contain words like ‘Tofu’ or some other English words then we know. For example, for a simple fried Tofu, they make it more ‘complicated’, calling it Agedashi Tofu. Next, the soft shell crab ‘agem’ this is what they key in on the receipt. I would not know the Japanese name of these dishes. Luckily there are beautiful photographs of all these dishes in the menu, which makes ordering so much easier (some restaurants have no photographs in their menu at all!) Next, the steam egg is called Sakae Chawanmushi (from the receipt). This is the main thing that I wanted. It costs $1.99. Clara ordered Classic Apple and Peach drink. We are surprised at the beautiful bottle. The last time the children ordered Coca-cola, we were surprised by the beautiful bottle as well. These are bottles that we do not get to see from the normal supermarkets.

The restaurant also has an entertainment TV providing information on birds, quotes and advertisement.  We would have a much better time dining here if Isaac can sit alone (as in having a baby chair) or having a children play corner like what Ikea does.  Otherwise, lots of time is spent on taking care of kids, and there is hardly any enjoyment in the meal.

The restaurant has a second level, and Richard wondered why it is always not opened for us…
