St Anthony Feast Day

St Anthony, of the order of St Francis of Assisi (Friars Minors) was born in 1195 in Lisbon, Portugal. In life, as after death, he worked many miracles, and was famous for learning as well as for holiness. He died in 1231 and he was canonised the following year. His body rests at Padua, Italy, when the name by which he is universally known.

Saint Anthony is a Doctor of the Church, “The Hammer of the Heretics”, The Patron of the Poor, of barren and expectant women, of travellers and is also invoked for the recovery of lost things. Traditionally, St Anthony is believed to be the people’s handy man especially if the granting of the petitions would help the destitute and the suffering.

On 13 June 2010, the Church celebrated The Feast Day of St Anthony. Since the Feast day of the Saint fell on 13th June this year, there is blessing of St Anthony’s Lily. The Shrine was lined with Lilies, and green curtains as shown below. It was so beautiful.

There were many worshipers on this day. The church was filled with people.

On this day of the Feast day of our Saint, there were many games booth at the Fun Fair. Isaac was so happy to see the many inflatable toys hanging around.
