Woodlands Regional Library

I am very lucky to stay in Woodlands. At Woodlands, I can have easy access to shopping centre, Causeway Point, my church (St Anthony) and best of all, the library — a big library!

I used to go Jurong East Library. Even though I had moved to Woodlands later on (when I got my matrimonial home here at Woodlands), I still had to travel to Jurong East if I wanted to borrow books. Those were the inconvenient days where a lot of traveling was involved. The library then was not as nice as now too.

Ever since Woodlands Regional Library was opened, my children and I often go there. Over the years, I had seen the changes to the library. It is such a beautiful library and I had never thought of taking any photographs of it until yesterday when I had the desire to write about it(for Just Singapore).

Some Information about Woodlands Regional Library(兰区域图书馆):
Woodlands Regional Library (WRL) is the largest in the public library network. Located inside Woodlands Civic Centre, the Woodlands Regional Library is a one-stop information and reference centre for the northern sector of Singapore. It has a floor area of 11100 square metres. In addition to books, there are also audio visuals available for loan. At the first floor of the library, people can sit on the sofa to listen to music/radio, read newspapers or surf the net. There are 4 levels in the library. The second level provides reference materials, while the third and fourth level provides books for the adults and children respectively.

What captivated me in this big library is the special artworks — both at the entrance (on the way down to the basement) and beside the escalators, the water features. As mentioned from the website, two prominent artists, Han Sai Por and Delia Prvacki have contributed significantly through the sculptures situated within the water feature and the extensive wall mural on the way down to the auditorium (250-seat : for conference and presentation usage). Various other ceramic murals and paintings by local artists are placed around the library to create an awareness of the local arts scene in the community.

Today I had taken some photographs of the library as shown below:
