Woodlands Town Garden
The last time I visited Woodlands Town Garden was April 2008. Last Sunday, 1 August 2010, Richard and I walked to the garden while waiting for the children (who was attending their catechism classes). The weather was cool, and it soon drizzled not long when we reached the garden.
As described in most websites, Woodlands Town Garden is located along Woodlands Centre Road adjacent to Bukit Timah Expressway. Sungei Mandai Kecil, a river that flows through the park, was also integrated in the design of the park. Part of this river that flows into the park was enlarged into a lake, irregularly-shaped for a natural look. Woodlands Town Garden has an Amphitheatre, playground, restrooms, pond and many shelters…. more description of the park includes

Well, I love to see the beautiful scenery of the gardens. It is such a nice garden with a beautiful and distinctive bridge over there. Before I can even walk round the garden, Richard was already bored,”What is there to see here?”
I had not walked the bridge. I had not walked near the water, I had not walked to the mangrove swamp. I would love to smell the water, smelled the river… I missed the smell of the sea. The smell of the sea is so refreshing… It ‘opens’ up my brain…
Before we actually stepped into the garden, we had to leave already. Richard was so reluctant to stay in the garden. He suggested to go shopping instead which is just across the garden…. Anyway, I managed to take a quick glance and quick snaps of the garden. Below, you can see some photographs of the garden.
After two years, I thought that the garden would be upgraded at least, but I was surprised to see that the playgrounds are still the same. I wanted to bring Isaac there to play, but the playground did not look interesting…
Soon, I had to head towards the shopping centre at the Causeway…. the old and run down ‘shopping centre’ near the Causeway. Richard led the way….
I never know that there is an underground tunnel at this garden. We walked in the tunnel to cross the road to the other end, the Causeway ‘shopping centres’ (the Blk 1-6 series of shops and hawker centre there). I do not like to use the tunnel. It was old, dirty and smelly. People had littered there and urinated there as well. The smell of urine is so strong and there was a dark skinned man who lied there sleeping even!
The photograph shows no cycling (fine $1000), but the place is so old and dirty. Imagine people sleeping there and people urinated there. Who went there for inspection anyway? Who would fine such people anyway? In Singapore, people are so lazy. Every educated Singaporean wanted to sit in the comfort of air-conditioned office. Who wants to ‘patrol’ in the garden, worked in the garden….. what happens to all the cleaners and the supervisors…. This is under one of the National Parks. Is this the kind of standards that our parks should have?
This park is so near to the Causeway. It is a great spot of significant potential…
