Today is the funeral of Yueh Lei. Yueh Lei, Chinese Name 岳雷 (Yue Lei), died on 8 January 2011 in his sleep at about 11.30pm last Saturday. Below is a short news about him from AsiaOneNews.
Talentime singer Yue Lei dies By Joy Fang: VETERAN homegrown crooner Yue Lei has died in Malacca at the age of 50 from cancer.
The singer, known for his win in the 1981 Mandarin Talentime and his evergreen ballads, had been battling nose cancer since 2005. Seven of his relatives, including an older brother, also died from cancer.
Yue had sold his house in Singapore and moved to Malacca in June last year.
He last performed here in September 2009 at three gigs at Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre.
Yue had planned to celebrate his son’s 14th birthday here last Saturday, but could not return as he had to settle some financial issues.
His assistant, Mr Roger Tan, said that Yue died in his sleep at about 11.30pm last Saturday night, said newspaper reports.
Mr Tan had discovered Yue foaming at the mouth and his body cold to the touch, according to Chinese evening newspaper Lianhe Wanbao. His body will arrive in Singapore today and his wake will be held in a church in Thomson Road.
According to My Paper dated 11 January 2011, as shown in the photograph above, Yueh Lei’s wake was at Church of the Holy Spirit. According to another newspaper, 晚报 (Wan Bao),funeral mass was at 11am this morning at Church of the Holy Spirit. According to the latter newspaper, “cortege leaves for Mandai Crematorium Mall 3 for cremation at 12.30pm)
